Summer I session begins May 26. Scroll down for complete class schedule!
Flamenco Chicago offers a fun, but serious, learning environment and has just celebrated its fifth anniversary in Chicago by moving to a larger location in the Roscoe Village neighborhood of Chicago. You will meet a friendly, welcoming, and very interesting group of students here, ranging in age from teens through 50s, with most students in their 20s and 30s. Class sizes are limited to ensure supportive, personal attention to each student. And, because we offer 10-13 classes per week, there are more options to take make-up classes when you have to miss a class -- and yes, we do allow make-ups!
Our structured
class program, requiring payment per session means that you won't encounter
multi-level classes full of drop-in students. Everyone is taught at the appropriate
level in order to make steady progress. Talented
students are able to quickly move up to a higher level. Students with no previous
dance experience find that they are able to develop their skills step by step.

| Our new flamenco studio. Students try out the floor por sevillanas at our Sept. 23 open house. |
A note to experienced flamenco students: I'd like to actively encourage and assist students with previous flamenco training to be able to join our program. You can come in and observe or try a class, or schedule a one-on-one brief meeting with me to assess your skill level. Don't let year after year go by without ever having the chance to perform and without progressing in your dancing!
Our classes and teaching methods have been featured in the May 2004 issue of Dance Teacher, the national magazine for dance teachers. We were also included in Chicago Sun-Times coverage of the Flamenco Festival 2005, and in the Chicago Tribune Planner in January 2006. n October 2006, Rosetta and Flamenco Chicago were selected by the Chicago Tribune (from among all the flamenco teachers and organizations in Chicago) to teach one of the winners in the newspaper's "Dreamers" contest, which culminated in beautiful coverage of our studio and Fall flamenco show.
Please note: Students in Basic II, Basic III and Intermediate levels must attend class twice a week and prepaid class sessions are six weeks in duration (total of 12 classes). Classes that may be taken just once a week are Fundamentals, Basic I, Technique classes and special, one-session classes such as Sevillanas. All students from Basic I level and up have the option to perform in our student shows. Please contact me to be put on my e-list and receive word of new classes, but please first read the rest of this page, especially the class descriptions below, so you can see whether class days and times would work for you.

Private lessons
Single one-hour private lesson: $60. Prepaid block of four private lessons
(to be used within six weeks of purchase date): $200. See schedule above for
available private lesson hours (some evening hours may occasionally be available
as well). A talented beginning flamenco student (with solid previous experience
in ballet, jazz, or tap -- and a good sense of rhythm) can use private lessons
to learn basic flamenco technique very quickly and enter our regular program
at the Basic II level. If I have a talented and motivated person to work with,
in four lessons I can teach the equivalent of four months of regular Basic
I classwork.
Special private lesson rates are offered to current group-class students, and these are a great supplement to their in-class study. Lessons can focus on any aspect of flamenco of interest to the student: technique, heelwork combinations, presentation/performance aspects, or to catch up with other students in class. This can be scheduled as an occasional single class, or as a regular monthly or weekly class. $45 per hour for technique; $60 per hour if the lesson includes teaching choreography we're not currently working on in class.

***All choreographies taught at Flamenco Chicago are the sole property of Rosetta Magdalen. They are not to be performed without prior permission in performances other than those of Flamenco Chicago, and are not to be taught by the students to others. Students who feel they are on a level proficient enough to perform with other flamenco groups or teach flamenco on their own must develop their own performance and teaching material, choreographies and techniques.***
"I thank you SO MUCH for coming today to DePaul University and making such an amazing presentation. You are a person full of energy and makes me so proud that people like you spread the culture of Spain everywhere with such passion. As a sevillana, I have to tell you that you are the most authentic flamenco dancer I have ever seen outside of Spain. You are inspirational Rosetta. I would never thank you enough. Nos vemos pronto!" -- Maria Campos
"I just wanted to thank you for teaching us the Fundamentals workshop this Sunday! I had such a wonderful time and the class has re-fueled my desire to learn Flamenco even more." -- Jessica Marie Sanchez
"You are the best dance teacher
I have had so far. You care so much for the way we perform and want us
to get it right - it is amazing." -- Shiwali Varshney
"You should know what a difference you make to everyone -- especially me!!! I enjoyed performing your choreography so much. So . . . I wanted to tell you THANK YOU - for making such a difference in my life. I appreciate it more than I can eloquently express." -- Camie DeGuerre
"Everybody enjoyed the [student] show, and marveled that you were the only teacher!! A couple of people told me how great a teacher you must be. Of course I had to agree. Thanks again for sharing your great talent with us." -- Ivette Monroy "I know I rarely, if ever, tell you this but you are an excellent teacher. I love the way you find ways to break things down for us so it's easier to be learned. I confess that my teaching is sometimes influenced by yours because now I try more to break down concepts into little easy to understand steps so my students can understand better. I learned that when you take the time to do this is well worth it." -- Marciel Gonzalez
"I enjoyed being a part of
your show, and hope to become more involved in the future. You did a beautiful
job putting the dancers of varying levels
"You are such a terrific teacher. You always find a way to improve my skills. Thank you very much for the fun classes, and your patience. Thank you for everything." -- Jill Chaiear
"I just wanted to let you know that I enjoy your class because of your patience and teaching technique. This shows me that you really enjoy what you do in making your students feel comfortable. A satisfied customer..." -- Mercy Bravo
"Thanks Rosetta for the updates on your classes. I will keep practicing and learning more until I can come back. I do love your smaller classes, they move faster with a lot more structure [than the others I have been taking] . . . until the next time..." -- Selina Santos
"Last year, when I started taking dance classes with Rosetta, it was simply because I was curious. I had heard some flamenco music travelling in Spain and I enjoyed it. I never had any formal dance training and the few attempts as a begining adult dancer always ended up in dissapointment and frustration. Nevertheless, I decided some movement would be a good change. "But little did I realise that with Rosetta, I was not just learning Flamenco, but a course in creativity, coordination, strength, flexibility, expression, rhythm- I could go on.. Rosetta totally understands the begining adult dancer- their physical limitations, strengths and learning abilities. She just instinctively knows when you're lost in class or when you need that extra push and challenge." -- Shalini Venkataraman
"Wow. What a great show. It
was exciting being a part of that spectacular production! Thank you!
"I'm so happy that I found this. It's what I look forward to every day. I can't wait to grow with the classes -- you are amazing!" -- Denise Dietz
"Thank you for all of your hard work, support, patience, and excellent instruction. I always look forward to my flamenco class and opportunities to perform." -- Catherine Harris Palladino
"When I started going to flamenco
class just a year ago in Japan, I felt it would be a long way to complete
sevillanas and could not expect to perform at a recital. But, I can't
help recognizing that the continuation of practice has a great power.
I really enjoyed the recital with wonderful company ! "Rosetta is not only a great
flamenco dancer, but also has excellent talent to plan and create new
things. I can get good inspiration from her every time. I really appreciate
that she is taking care of us and supporting us !" -- Rie Katayama
